October Student Recognition Program was conducted at the 10/13/09 meeting.  Following NEISD students were presented plaques by Club President Bob Kerrigan:  Walzem Elementary - Ernest Sanchez; White Middle School -  Christopher Johnson; Krueger Middle School - Jenna Falks; and Windcrest Elementary - Adriana Padgett.  Students were selected for this award based on their conduct, citizenship, scholastic success, and optimistic attitude.  Optimist Congratulations go to these future leaders of our community.

Twenty Three Members and guests gathered last Friday evening at Water Street Oyster Bar for our annual Club Installation Banquet.  Our own Lt Gov Don Myles installed the officers and directors for the 2009-2010 Optimist year.  Guests of the Club were District Governor Jack Hopkins and Past Governor Fay Hopkins.  Don Myles was awarded the OI President's Citation for being our Outstanding Optimist Club Member for 2008-2009.

Evening meeting scheduled for October 27th will be held at Checker's Diner (13838 Nacogdoches - just south of O'Connor).  Social time at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:00, followed by program presented by Librarian Mariya Rodriguez from Roosevelt High School.

First Quarter South Texas District Meeting will be held in Corpus Christi on November 6, 7, and 8.  Registration form and Schedule of Events are available at www.stxd.org.
