2009-2010 Optimist International Essay Contest
This contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to develop their own views around a central idea. In addition to the opportunity for written expression, participants have the chance to win a college scholarship of up to $6,000. The contest is open to youth under age 19 as of December 31, 2009.

All entries MUST be RECEIVED by the District Chair by February 28, 2010.
This is an OI rule not a District rule.
All of the following items must be submitted to the District Essay Chair with the club’s winning essay:
- Completed District Essay Contest Entry Form
- Copy of Birth Certificate
- Your Club’s Winning Essay
- Entry Fee - Check for $10 payable to South Texas District
The District Chair is required to report the District Essay Contest winner’s Social Security number on the Winner’s Information Form signed by the District Governor and the District Chair and submitted to Optimist International with the District’s winning essay. For this reason the Club Chair should obtain their Club Essay Contest winner’s Social Security number prior to sending the above information to the District Chair. The District Chair will ask for this information from the winning club only. Proof of the District Winner’s Social Security Number such as a Social Security Card will be required. Failure to provide the number and proof in a timely manner will result in disqualification.
