Letter from the Governor

Welcome to the new South Texas District of Optimist International. Yes, the SCTXD & SETX merged Oct 1, 2007. We just had our first District meeting in Waco as South Texas District. Thanks to all the many members who attended. I want to thank Past Carl Pearce and the Waco members for making the arrangements and hosting the Hello party.

The first order of business was to approve the merger business. The By-Laws and Policies committee members with members from both districts worked hard to get the Administration part of the merger done and it passed with few questions. The chairperson was Jerry Eschberger with members David Chavez, Al Randez, Beverly Cordray, Pam and Tom Mabe. Many thanks to them for their hard work.

The new district also approved a District Five Year Strategic Plan. All club officers are encouraged to read the plan on the webpage and know what the district and club goals are.

We then elected our Gov-elect for next year at this meeting - Fay Hopkins was the winner and I know she will do a great job.

One of the goals of the district plan is for every club to be plus one in membership at the end of each fiscal year. The district will also be responsible for building five new clubs each year. We have commitments from the following members to build a new club or JOOI club during this year: Please call me to arrange for assistance if needed.

Isn't this great! This will be the only way for the district to grow and be in a position to help all the children in our communities. I challenge all members to be supportive of your individual clubs and Lt Governors because the district is going to support you in your efforts.
