Stop / Start Program - For your Club

How to Implement The Process:

Have someone within the club who can present the idea, conduct the session. For example, A Past President, Current President, Past District Chairman, Club Services

Meet with the Board of Directors first to discuss the system and divide the club into groups of 5-6

Break up the groups that tend to socialize, stick together Include new members with older members, Board Members in each group to provide a balance of opinion

Decide when is the best time to do this activity, Board/Club Decision Publish this date well in advance, and call each member in order to get maximum participation.

Every member must understand that it is critical that they attend.

The Meeting:

Present the idea of what is going to happen, it will take approximately 60-90 minutes depending on the discussion.

First Step:

There are many things that the club is involved with that are positive and should continue.

Please discuss these within your group and list these on chart paper. (15-20 minutes).

Post these and have one person present the list.

Second Step:

There are some things that the club is involved with that are not too positive and should stop.

Please discuss these within your group and list these on chart paper. (15-20 minutes).

Post these and have one person present the list.

Third Step:

In order to be more effective club, there are some things that would be beneficial to start.

We welcome new ideas; plans and etc. that you think would helpful. Discuss these within your group and list them on sheets of paper and someone person present the ideas.

Last Step:

You now have three lists of ideas from the various groups. Are there any points of clarification prior to the final step in this process?

When everyone is clear on the issues, give everyone five stickers or something similar, in order to indicate their preferences or choices.

Remember everyone has five votes so make your selections carefully.

When Finished:

The Board of Directors or the people involved in the process should tabulate the various votes.

The items that receive the greatest number of votes need to be acted on immediately

The final report should be made to the club at the next meeting and would then provide the club and its leaders with goals and directions for the next year or so.

Materials Needed:

Large sheets of paper for each group,
markers,
tape,
and stickers for voting.

Points to Consider:

In the discussion groups, instruct the members to discuss program, procedures within the club, practices that are going on, meals, facilities, and etc.

Look at the 14 points that lead to club difficulties, this may be helpful

Consider positive things equally with some of the negative things, remember anyone can be a critic, but the process should be constructive for the well being of the club.
